The Crew
Take Two Theatre productions would not be possible if not for the dedication of time and effort by our members.
Following is a brief description of department head positions (a more detailed description is in our handbook). All Department Heads have a crew of people working for and with them. Depending on how much time you have to volunteer should help to determine if you are able to head a department or be part of a crew.
Producer
The Producer is responsible for co-coordinating all aspects of the production. This job requires a great deal of time and commitment and it is recommended that a co-producer be recruited. The main objective is to ensure that all department heads carry out their designated duties adhering to the time line established so that the final product, the play being presented, meets the objective of Take Two Theatre.
Director
The Director is responsible for everything that goes on stage. All departments work with the director’s concept in mind (their vision). The director must be consulted on all artistic decisions. She/he is in charge of all decisions made with respect to the context and mechanics of the show.
Stage Manager
The Stage Manager is responsible for assisting in the running of rehearsals and carrying out the wishes of the director. This job requiring a great deal of time and commitment and it is strongly recommended that an Assistant Stage Manager be recruited. The Stage Manager is the liaison with the various department heads. When the production moves to the auditorium or designated venue she/he is responsible for all backstage activities.
Assistant Stage Manager
The Assistant Stage Manager carries out those duties assigned by the Stage Manager. She/he should be ready to be a stagehand and available to assist in any designated area.
Set Designer
The Set Designer works in conjunction with the director, to design a set in accordance with the director’s vision. She/he supplies specific information concerning color, texture, size etc. to set construction department heads.
Set Construction
The responsibility of the person in charge of Set Construction is to build a stable and safe set. She/he is to receive specific finishing instructions from the designer. She/he is responsible for purchasing all set materials required that Take Two doesn’t already have in its inventory. She/he is responsible to arrange, along with the Stage Manager, the dismantling and striking of the set.
Set Decoration / Furnishings
She/he is responsible for obtaining, caring for and returning all stage furniture. They are responsible to confer with the Director and discuss the period, shape, style and color she/he wants.
Lighting
This position requires that all lighting equipment is assembled and to make sure that it is all in good, safe, working order. Responsibilities also include setting and focusing lights.
Sound
To be responsible for sound you would be responsible for all sound effects during rehearsal, performances and intermission. A list of all sound and music cues must be made upon discussion with the Director to determine what she/he would like.
Wardrobe
Wardrobe is responsible for all costumes and accessories, keeping in mind director’s designs. You must decide what has to be borrowed, made or rented depending on cost and availability.
Makeup
Makeup must organize all makeup supplies and special effects (beards, wigs, etc.) and purchase more if needed
Properties
A property is anything handled by an actor. The department head would obtain a list of all props required from the Director. Along with her/his crew they would locate said items from the list and get the Director’s approval to ensure they meet the Director’s vision.
Publicity
This department head would seek out “freebie” sources of publicity as well as purchase radio and/or newspaper ads, as outlined by the producer.
Poster/Programs
Arrange printing and distribution of posters and flyers and arrange design and printing of programs.
Tickets
Arrange printing of tickets and take tickets to designated outlets and check progress of sales at these outlets.
House
You would be responsible for recruiting personnel to work the door and concession (if we are responsible for one), and also be responsible for the management of money for both the door and concession.
